The Walkzone has been developed to assist you in walking to gain health benefits. It has been designed to enable you to plot a walking route from your door using aerial photography. The route will provide you with a suggested time based on your ability, (see ability defined) plus the amount of steps you have taken. Using this information you will be able to set targets, record distances and progress your fitness at an appropriate level for you.
The Walkzone has been established by observing individuals, from primary school age to over-eighties, walking at a moderate rate of activity (a level that they felt warmer, their heart was beating harder than normal, and they perceived that they were "doing exercise").
Under the guidelines of the Zones for example, a fit, active 20-year old may walk around 1km in 15 minutes at his/her moderate activity level, whereas a non-active 75-year old might walk around 1km at their moderate activity level, but the general benefits for both would be the same due to differing ability levels. |
